The Goat Major and Salt, Cardiff Bay have made it into the new Lonely Planet Great Britain guidebook.
In a chapter on Cardiff, the influential guide recommends the Goat Major in the ‘Eating’ section:
"A solidly traditional pub with armchairs, a fireplace and lip-smacking Brains Dark real ale on tap, the Goat Major’s gastronomic contribution comes in the form of its selection of homemade pies. Its Wye Valley pie (a mixture of buttered chicken, leek, asparagus and Tintern Abbey cheese) was named Britain’s best in 2010."
Salt is named in the ‘Drinking’ section:
"A large, modern, nautical-themed bar with plenty of sofas and armchairs for lounging around and a 1st-fl oor open-air terrace with a view of the yachts out in the bay."
Elsewhere the book references Brains SA: "… a lively alternative scene, some swish bars and a swath of old-fashioned pubs keep things interesting. Try the local Brains SA (meaning Special Ale, Same Again or Skull Attack depending on how many you’ve had), brewed by the same family concern since 1882."
