Canton’s Victoria Park pub reopens on Friday 17 March following an extensive refurbishment by SA Brain and Co Ltd.
The popular pub, a stone’s throw from Victoria Park on Cowbridge Road East, has been redeveloped internally and externally following an investment of more than £300,000.
Inside it features a new-look bar and lounge area with updated furniture, new toilet facilities and a new kitchen which will offer an enhanced ‘Real Pub Favourites’ menu.
The Victoria Park keeps the skittle alley which has been a feature of the pub for many years and this has also been refurbished ahead of the reopening.
Victoria Park manager Simon Campbell, who’s been in the hospitality industry for 30 years, said: “We’re very much a traditional, community, pub but we hope to attract a wider range of customers now we’ve had a modern uplift.
“It’s a family-friendly pub, with a full children’s menu and our opening weekend includes a family fun day with face-painting on Sunday 19th.
“Our first live music act will be a Shirley Bassey tribute on Friday (17th) because I’m told the real Shirley Bassey used to perform in our function room many years ago.
“We’ve added a further 12 staff members ahead of the reopening, so we’re creating jobs in the local community and we look forward to getting our first customers through the door.”
The new menu at The Victoria Park will now include two meals for £10 on a selection of items, available all day Monday to Friday.
There are also daily offers including two-for-one on ‘real pub favourites’ on a Monday, any dish from the spice rack and a drink for £7.50 on a Tuesday and two standard glasses of wine for just £5 on a Wednesday.
Thursday night is treat night with two for one on tasty desserts, Friday is grill night offering two rump steaks for £15 and Sunday offers a two-course roast for £9.
Nolan Spratt, Group Head of Pub Operations at Brains, commented: “The Victoria Park is a much-loved pub in Canton and we are looking forward to the reopening.
“Canton has become one of the most popular areas of Cardiff for young professionals and families and new-look Victoria Park will reflect this with its new menu and refurbished décor.
“But it also retains many of the traditional features, including the skittle alley, which make The Victoria Park a favourite in the local community.”
