A portrait of Lord Nelson returns to the Lord Nelson Hotel

A replica of an original portrait of British naval hero Admiral Lord Nelson was donated to Brains’ popular Lord Nelson hotel on the waterfront in Milford Haven on 5th September. The original portrait was painted to commemorate Lord Nelson’s visit to South Wales and hung in the hotel from 1802 until the 1840s.

This portrait was donated by the Lord Nelson Society at an event attended by Brains’ CEO, Alistair Darby, Terry Davies, the Mayor of Milford Haven and representatives from the port authority and Lord Nelson Society.

The presentation was a demonstration of how much the town embraces its history and celebrates Lord Nelson’s place at the heart of this local community. It is hoped that the installation of this portrait will attract more visitors to the local area and the Lord Nelson.

Cerys Radcliffe, Manager of the Lord Nelson said: “We are so grateful to receive this wonderful portrait. Having a strong sense of place as a result of our unique history makes great business sense. We have already taken a conference booking for 2020 as a direct result of this event. We hope to welcome many more visitors coming to see the local area and the portrait displayed with us.”

Alistair Darby, CEO of Brains added: “The Lord Nelson is proud to be a part of this local community and its association with Welsh History. By embracing this history we will hopefully encourage more visitors to choose the Lord Nelson when they are visiting Pembrokeshire.”
